CASEY McCARTHY: NAFI/CFEI – Centralia, WA
Casey McCarthy is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) through the National Association of Fire Investigators. He has 32 years of fire service experience, working various roles, including firefighter, fire engineer, and fire instructor. For the past 15 years, he has served as a fire captain with the Riverside Fire Authority, demonstrating leadership and expertise in the field. Additionally, over the last decade, Casey has been an integral member of the Joint Fire Investigation Taskforce, serving 184 square miles of Lewis County, where he applies his extensive knowledge to analyze and investigate fire-related incidents, contributing to public safety and the resolution of complex cases.
JOHN S. SPIEGELBERG: IAAI/CFI, IAAI/ FIT, NAFICFEI – Tacoma, WA
John Spiegelberg is a Certified Fire Investigator and a Fire Investigation Technician through the International Association of Arson Investigators and a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator through the National Association of Fire Investigators. He is also a Certified Fire Inspector I, Certified Fire Investigator, Certified Fire Instructor I, and Certified Fire Officer II through the State of Washington. John has been working as a fire investigator since 2017. He currently serves as a fire investigator for the West Thurston Regional Fire Authority and conducts fire investigations within rural southwest Thurston County. John is a 2020 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Fire, Arson, and Explosion Investigations. In addition, he graduated in 2024 with a Master of Science in Forensic Science with an emphasis in Fire and Arson Investigations from Oklahoma State University. He is a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators, the National Association of Fire Investigators, the National Fire Protection Association, and the International Code Council.
VIRGINIA X. CHAPMAN: IAAI/CFI(V), IAAI/CI, NAFI/CFEI, NAFI/CVFI – Portland. OR
Virginia Chapman is a Certified Fire Investigator with Motor Vehicle Endorsement and Certified Instructor through the International Association of Arson Investigators, as well as a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator through the National Association of Fire Investigators. In addition, Virginia is a Certified Fire Inspector II through the International Code Council, a Certified Fire Investigator through the State of Washington, and a Certified Fire Investigator by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress. Virginia earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Oregon. Virginia has extensive fire investigation experience. She previously served 15 years as the Deputy Fire Marshal of the Vancouver Fire Department, and most recently as a senior fire investigator in the private sector for 7 years. Virginia’s expertise in code compliance, code education and fire protection systems are instrumental tools she utilizes in her fire cause and origin investigations. She also has experience in the coordination and management of multi-million-dollar complex large losses and fire safety education.
